Relief of hardship
Small grants for families and individuals facing unexpected difficulty — bereavement, illness, household emergencies.
For more than six decades our four linked village trusts have offered modest, carefully considered grants to neighbours in need — for education, for wellbeing, and for relief in difficult times.
Stretton on Dunsmore Charities is a federation of four long–established parish trusts. Together we exist for one straightforward reason: to offer practical, discreet financial help to residents of the parish when life becomes hard, and to support learning, health and wellbeing across our community.
We make grants to individuals rather than run services of our own. That keeps our work simple, personal, and close to the concerns of village life. Decisions are made locally by trustees who know the parish, meet regularly, and receive no remuneration whatsoever.

Our four linked trusts each carry a particular purpose inherited from village bequests made across centuries: the upkeep of the parish church, support for schooling, the provision of fuel for older residents in winter, and the care of those in hardship.
Our charitable purposes have changed very little since Victorian times. Each trust contributes to one of the following areas of need within the parish.
Small grants for families and individuals facing unexpected difficulty — bereavement, illness, household emergencies.
Help towards the cost of books, equipment, travel and courses for young people and adult learners from the parish.
Grants that contribute to the advancement of health and the saving of lives for residents, including those with disabilities.
A historic tradition continued today: modest help with heating costs for older residents through the winter months.
